The founder of Invent An Idea, George, being a stifled inventor himself, needed to explain to other people who have ideas about all the difficulties of patenting and sourcing manufacturers, how to get their ideas on the market quickly and easily. before they are forgotten about.
It's now very easy, really.
Are you constantly looking for new inventions or new ideas?
Maybe you’ve got a little problem like me, being just a tad nosey, curious even, always delving into how things work or perhaps suddenly realising how things could be better designed or improved?
On the other hand, have you found many tools or supposedly practical objects that don’t work right or don’t do what they’re supposed to do, even from new? Maybe they need modifying?
Maybe, like me, you have a curious mind and are good with your hands, taking on jobs to help others out of sticky situations? Or maybe you’re hoping to make a fortune from the many thoughts bouncing around in your mind?
Then this could well be the place for you!
Here, at Invent an Idea, you can explore how to take those thoughts and turn them into physical, practical pieces and maybe gain financially in the future without too much trouble or expense?
At the same time you will learn how to provide new inventions and ideas to industry at virtually no cost to yourself. especially regarding patenting an idea.
If this is one of the doubts stalling your progress to promoting your idea, or maybe deciding what company to approach for submitting your ideas to:
Then further reading is a must!
What you will learn is how I overcame many of the obstacles standing in my way as I progressed with some of my ideas – some of which I marketed, along with a few I shunned away from, despite their usefulness, where I thought the gains from patenting would not be practicable or profitable, but more on that later…
Early on, I was under the impression that a patent and a fully working model of my idea was a must have before contacting any company, but I have worked out a way to avoid paying for a patent directly and also a working model is not needed in many cases, and this saves a fortune in my initial outlay.
In fact, this was one of the big obstacles regarding wondering whether getting a patent or not was worthwhile, but I've overcome that problem easily. I leave it to the experience of manufacturers, in that they choose which ideas are most likely to meet their needs and simply ignore the others.
After all, they are in the business of making profits, so they can pick and choose as some ideas are a bit expensive to produce, maybe a bit far-fetched or downright useless. That way, using their choices, they are picking the projects that are worth promoting and likely to be profitable for the inventor.
This site, for any novice inventor, will take you through all you need to know about how to travel along the journey from ‘thought to product’ in the simplest and most economical way possible.
In fact the first six months can be absolutely free to you regarding advertising and beyond that a minimal charge for advertising will be required, but normally, if your idea is any good, it will be snapped up within that six months by a company looking for ideas to fit in with their manufacturing processes and it will cost you zilch, but from my point of view, the more ideas, the merrier.
This was the main reason this site was set up in the first place; to try to avoid excessive expense for any creator when they first come up with ideas, but are not too sure if their first invention is a viable product or not.
Believe me... Expenses can be astronomical if you are a total novice with no set path to travel on your idea for a production journey, especially the initial cash flow involved regarding getting a patent.
New Ideas for New Inventions
So, why is this site important to you?
Having tried my hand at inventing products over the years, as well as helped many friends navigate what seems like patenting an idea was a very technical and complicated field for the average human to understand, I soon realized that the web could use a place that is easily accessible, simple and clear and tells you all you need to know about getting new inventions and new ideas into the public domain in a safe and reliable manner.
Sure, there are plenty of expensive patent lawyers doing their best to promote themselves by trying to push you to use their services as they suggest it is absolutely necessary to have your idea protected through a patent. But that is not necessarily true or the best way to go.
Having begun my inventive career in the early 1970’s, well before the internet was available to the public, there were only the two methods of proving you had the rights of the product you thought up or designed.
If you saw the same product in the shops at a later date, you had proof for the courts of where the idea came from and the date of concept, meaning you would win in a court case easily.
Both ways are a sure-fire way of proving ownership, but both still needed the legality of ownership to be settled in court, which again can cost a further fortune.
From this, I thoroughly realized that the legal side of patenting a product was the biggest obstacle any inventor can encounter and the legal act of patenting your idea was nothing more than the government of the day taking your funds for a notional certificate of ownership.
So, I sought a simpler method of producing a patent with virtually no cost to the idea’s inventor.
And, Lo and Behold, this thought eventually struck my mind.
In fact, what I eventually came up with since the introduction of the internet is a simple idea - a modified version of the second method above.
Why not have a simple website displaying inventors’ new inventions and new ideas to sell to potential producers without the need for the expense of a patent needed by the inventor???
The purchaser of your New Invention or New Idea would be responsible for the patent application if one is needed, that way the patent, or a contract, could be drawn up to suit the inventor as well as the purchaser in a more agreeable manner. After all, most businesses usually deal with legislation on a regular basis.
OK… You may not get the sale price you want without a patent included, but that alone can save you lots of time, money and stress, leaving you free to move on to other new ideas.
What was required in the pre-internet era was a huge shop window (but on a much larger scale) where new inventions and new ideas could be displayed in a vague manner so that the idea could not be copied without further communication with the original owner.
Bombarding manufacturers with persistent promotional letters or phone calls was the game of the day and more often than not this was a one way postal traffic which made the Post Office very rich indeed… But all that’s changing now!
So, now, we have a much broader reach to interested customers and at the same time ownership can be secured more easily.
This also meant supporting a single website on my part would be relatively inexpensive and if the companies are so interested in your idea and want to patent the idea, after all they have access to the funding, then an agreement with the original producer of the idea regarding a patent would be easily sorted, or even a direct sale could be achieved, even without a patent.
They, the companies, would have easier access to the inventor through INVENT AN IDEA and would most likely gain in a reduced sale price for the rites they desire for manufacturing the product.
So my aim is to take you by the hand and show you how to make your idea a reality – step by step, in the simplest way possible.
It’s easy and simple and you can do it too! No technical high level wording that gets you confused the old patenting way, and frankly, being scared, rushing to pay an expert to clear up things you are not sure about is no longer needed.
You can forget about all that now and concentrate on your invention and ideas.
